Venue Description: The Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) is a non-profit organization in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn dedicated to performance art. Founded in 1991 by executive director Marya Warshaw and originally named the Gowanus Arts Exchange, BAX provides year-round events, as well as rehearsal and educational opportunities for all ages. Its programs support ?arts and artists in progress? and emphasize cultural diversity. BAX hosts more than 50 performances each season, including family events and those for adult audiences, and offers a special rate for low-income individuals. It also provides an array of educational programs in its four-studio space, including youth classes in dance, theater, and performance; baby/toddler workshops for young ones and their parents/caregivers; family workshops ?for children of all ages and their grown-ups;? special youth projects and festivals; a summer dance program for preschoolers; and a summer arts program for grades K-5. The accessBAX program provides workshops and classes for adults ranging from yoga to acting. Classes and workshops are taught by BAX?s team of more than 20 faculty members and four rotating artists-in-residence. Scholarships and financial assistance for BAX programs are available by application at www.bax.org/scholarships. As part of its mission to help develop young artists, BAX provides performance workshops to more than 1,400 students in Brooklyn public schools, both in classrooms and afterschool programs, and brings its programs to local preschools and daycare centers. BAX also offers its facilities for kids? birthday parties, which are hosted by a BAX teaching artist. BAX is located at 421 Fifth Avenue, near the corner of 8th Street. For more information, to sign up for classes and workshops, or to order tickets, call 718-832-0018, email info@bax.org, or visit www.bax.org.
